Breanna's House

For the last three weeks, we've been working on redoing this space:

Here's the before pictures of Breanna's family room and kitchen.  They had great bones and just needed sparkle added through accessorizing.

Here's the finished product!  We absolutely love the mantel.  We found this fabric that Breanna loved, so I made it into artwork by building a frame and stretching the fabric over it!  It was the perfect statement for the room.  The mantel decor came together beautifully with a little help from all of our favorite home decor stores.  The drapes were just what the room needed to bring it all together.   I got a screaming deal on the fabric from fabric.com.  It was 110" fabric, so I only needed three yards to do all three windows.  (I only paid $43!)

Forget Me Not had the darling floating frames and prints.  I found those on my way to meet with Breanna for the first time and knew that those were our jumping off point.  I made her new pillows with coordintaing fabrics that tied all the rooms together.

In the kitchen, we updated the top of the cabinets with whiteware and glass vignettes.  We added hints of greenery, and the turquoise mirror to tie in the new kitchen curtain.

Thanks to TaiPan and our own resourcefulness, we created a whole new look for under $90.

It was such a joy doing Breanna's space.  The mantel is definitely our favorite statement in the room.  If your space is in need of updating, contact us!  We'd love to help you come home to a room like this!

Another Use

I had to share some pictures of other uses for the cute tags I posted about last week.  I found some different ribbon to add from The Emporium.  I love how this one turned out.



Adding it to my wreaths added just a splash of color and whimsy!  I loved the script ribbon I found at The Emporium.



I created this one for a bird cage in Khloe's room.  I LOVE it! 



I moved the birdcage from another spot on the shelf to the center because I love how the tag brought it to life.  This is such an easy project to make yourself.  I'll help anyone:)

A Bit of Spring

After re-doing my kitchen decor, I wanted something new for my table centerpiece.  As I am all about trays right now, I put together this little number this week.  I found everything at TaiPan.  The tray was $4.  It had an ugly screened image of a fish on the bottom, so I just lined the tray with burlap.  (Try to look past something you don't like and think of a way to fix it.) The pitchers were $5, $3, $2, and I love them used as a group.  The book was $7, finial was $7, bottle $5, and the little print was $3.  I loved the bright pink tulips for $6, as it was just the pop of color I was looking for.  Trays don't have to be expensive and can add a great touch to any room!  TaiPan has great items right now for under $10.

A Little Bling

So I saw this in the Thanksgiving Point mailer yesterday and fell in love with it.  Armed with the picture, I headed to Hobby Lobby to get materials to recreate it!

The flower was on clearance for $2.  I paired it with a $.37 paper mache egg.  I bought two different colors of burlap (1/3 yard for $1.33).  I layered the greenish burlap in a mound gluing the layers.  Then I did layers of book pages and glued on the flower and egg. 



Then I glued two layers of grosgrain ribbon bows on the cream burlap and tied a piece of jute around it.  On the back, I put a little bundle of sticks ($4 for the large bundle from Hobby Lobby) and tied it with the jute.



The jeweled letter B was on clearance for $2.  I stuck it in the middle and glued it on the back to the burlap.  Then I simply tied the whole thing with the jute to the bird cage.  I love it.  It was super easy and was inexpensive.  TaiPan has cheap birdcages right now.

I love how it took my birdcage from boring to "blingtastic!"

Alisa's Room Makeover

Our dear friend, Alisa is battling stage 4 melanoma for the 3rd time.  Wanting to do something for her, Lindsay, Kallee, and I reached out willing to do anything from dinner to cleaning toilets.  Well, Alisa had something in mind that was right up our alley.  She wanted to redo her front room/office for her husband Josh.  We jumped at the chance to help her and put our love for design in action.

Here is her room before.  The desk was massive, and she needed the piano to stay as well.  She wanted a seating area to enjoy and have an overall relaxing space.  We had our work cut out for us.

With Lindsay at home with Katelyn, Kallee, and I set off to source and find the missing pieces.

The first store we went to was Osmond Design in Orem.  We saw this chair right as we walked in and fell in love.  It was the right scale, shape, size, color, and pattern.

Next, we headed to our favorite consignment shop, Home Again, and found this beautiful piece for much needed storage for the room.  At $160, it was a steal.

Alisa wanted the walls to be gray.  Using the green Frogger tape, we taped the ceiling and painted a coat of white over the tape edge.  Then we carried the gray up the walls and the ceiling to give the allusion of more height.  We left the ceiling white and LOVED how it turned out.  The green tape is the best and leaves no paint bleed!

Here is the finished room.  We couldn't have been happier with the result.  When Alisa saw it and teared up, we knew we had hit a home run.  The room is simply beautiful!

The pair of chairs made the room.  We found the table at Osmond for $69.  The tray also came from Osmond and was only $16.  All of the accessories for the tray came from TaiPan for under $50.



I found this pillow at Target for $25.  It brought such a warmth with the rich color of the stitching. 

Alisa already had the beautiful mirror.  We simply moved the piano to the smaller wall and added the Boxwood wreath over the top of the mirror.  (Great idea Lindsay).  We added simple accessories to the top of the piano.  We found the bookends at Osmond for $16 and added to fake books between them. 



We moved the desk to the big wall, removed the hutch, and created this perfect Pottery Barn inspired wall grouping.  We found the oval clock at TaiPan for $69.  The number plaques came from Pottery Barn for $39.  The picture frames were also from Pottery Barn for around $25-30 with the mats included.  Alisa is a photographer and took the most amazing pictures of a variety of old blue doors while in France.  We picked our 3 favorites for the frames.  It is a great idea to keep a common theme for pictures used as art.

The desk accessories were a steal.  I found the file items at Ikea for $15 out the door.  We saw similar items at World Market for $75.  The lamp was 50% off from Pottery Barn because it was the floor model.  We had to have it for its architectural lines. 

We reused Alisa's gold mirrors and added the jar with greenery, a grass ball, fleur de lis, and the cool book pages as art picture that I posted earlier in the week.  It was the perfect grouping for the top of the storage cabinet.

We found the perfect desk chair and cushion from World Market for $169.  It was pretty easy to assemble.  (I did it in about 30 mins).  It was just what Josh was looking for in a chair.

We had a hard time finding the perfect window treatment.  I found these amazing drapes at Ikea for $60.  They are beautiful and add such beauty to the room.  We hung the rod next to the ceiling to create more drama for the window.  Kallee found the floor lamp at Target for $25 on clearance.  We moved the painting from another spot in Alisa's house as it was perfect for the room.  We couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out and the peace it brings for our dear friends.  We love them and continue to pray for the eradication of her cancer.  We are for hire if anyone needs design help.

Love World Market

So I saw this pillow in the World Market ad from Sunday and loved it.  I went in hoping it would be under $15.  Sadly, it was double that.  So instead, I created this little grouping for my side table for the same price.  I love the greens in the candle and vase.  World Market is one of my favorite places to find unique items.

Christmas Tours: Kallee's House Day Two

Today, I want to show how Kallee decorates her statement furniture pieces throughout her home.  I love how she adds decor to the top of her china cabinet and inside it with the Christmas sign.

 Her armoire is always my favorite.  I love how she uses her existing decorations of every day and adds flair with the Christmas decorations! 

We talked just the other day how a pick can fill a hole perfectly.  Hobby Lobby has all of their picks 50% off right now.

Her tree is darling.  I love the "let it snow" sign and the picks at the top.  If your tree is looking a little sad this year, add some picks and large balls near the trunk of the tree.  It makes such a difference!

Nothing brings the holiday spirit more than decorations throughout the house.  Kallee is an expert and does such a great job!  Thanks for sharing with us!

Christmas Home Tours: Kallee's House

Our friend Kallee is so good at creating vignettes all throughout her house.  No table or nook is left undone.  Here are some of my favorites.  I love her side table decor and the ribbon tied to the lamp.  It adds that extra touch and makes it perfect for Christmas.

Trays are really inexpensive, especially at Hobby Lobby with the coupon.  Love how Kallee filled hers with ornaments and signs.

Love the mix of the glass, candles, red filler, and boxes.  Don't be afraid to mix and match.

Love this tray with the glass apothecary tree jar.  TaiPan has these and looks great filled with ornaments and ribbon.

Who doesn't need a touch of mistletoe?  Love this hanging from the ceiling fan.  Check back tomorrow for more of Kallee's great ideas!

Jackie's House: Day 3

With one curtain panel from Pottery Barn, Jackie made these curtains for the kitchen

and these great pillows for her window seat.  Great way to stretch your dollar.



Jackie's husband made this table.  I know right!  Using a piece of plywood topped with a piece of hardwood, he added trim to the edge and the legs to the bottom.  I was super impressed.  Contact us if you want his information.



Jackie's kitchen is beautiful.  My favorite touches are the pendant lights and the metal stools.  The lights were her most expensive purchase, but she still found them on a good sale online.  Her house is beautiful and proves you can decorate well on a budget!  Don't we all want Jackie to go shopping with us!
