Hitting the Right Note

I am decorating a room for my neighbor Kelly.  It is her front room/piano room.  We needed a third piece of artwork for a wall grouping.  As I've framed book pages before, this time I thought of framing music pages.  I headed to Forget Me Not, and found the perfect music theory book.

I cut foam board to size and layered the music pages until I was pleased with how it looked.

I placed it inside an open back frame from Hobby Lobby. I used glazier points to hold the board in the frame. This is a super easy project and the perfect piece of art! Can't wait to show you the finished room!

Fun Find: Artwork

My mother-in-law got this great sectional last weekend in her basement.  She called me and asked how she could decorate the room.  I loved the colors in the geometric pillow and built the room around it.  I headed to Ikea and found the great prints.  The bright flower print was made for her room and at $50 was a steal.  The other set of 3 was the perfect balance and was $50 for the set.  I found the mirror and Hobby Lobby and only paid $50.  I found the fabric at Hancock and made the coordinating pillows to add a bit more lightness to the room.  She loves it and it really freshens up the basement.  Again, Ikea didn't disappoint.

Playroom collage

When I bought the fabric online I also wanted to buy prints to hang on the wall.  Instead of paying $8-$10 per print I decided to buy a calendar with 12 prints for $14!

The Pottery Barn Kids catalog had this great idea to hang a collage...I really love how it turned out!  The frames are the Ribba frames from IKEA for $10.

It was pretty simple to do.  First I laid out the photos on the ground to see how far apart I wanted each frame.  Then I measured the total size of the collage and how much space it would take on the wall .  Once I found the center point on the wall I hung the middle picture on the top line as my reference point.  Then I hung the two middle frames followed by the bottom middle frame.  It was easy to build out from there.  I had each frame overlap by 3 1/2 inches.

These are a few of my favorite Dick and Jane prints...

The nice thing about frame collages is they take up space on a large wall!  My playroom feels much more decorated now!  Photos of the full room coming tomorrow!

Artwork on a Budget

Art.com is a great place for inexpensive artwork for your home.  I got this set of 3 prints for under $20.  The frames came from The Village Quilt Shop at Gardner's Village.  Although they were more expensive at $50 a piece, I loved the look and they are worth the investment.  They make such a statement on that wall in her room and can be used later as she grows.

Quite the bargain!

Cheap, Instant Artwork

If you are like me, you love a bargain.  A couple years back when looking for artwork for Porter's room, I came across old Mary Engelbreit calendars that I had.  I flipped through and thought the prints would make great art.  So, I matted and framed them.  The frames are the Ribba series from Ikea.  You can get 8x10 frames for $4.99.

I loved how these bigger ones turned out.  I used black scrapbook paper from Roberts, mounted the print on it, then mounted that on the mat provided with the frame from Ikea.  Isn't that just the best print?
So if you are looking for artwork for your child's room, find a calendar you like, buy frames from Ikea, and you will have great inexpensive art.
