Mya's Room

I wanted to share a room makeover that I did a couple weeks back.  It is for this darling three year-old named Mya.  Her grandma had made her bedding, so I just added the curtain and the accessories.  I love the wall with her name and fabric rings.  I found all the fabric at Hobby Lobby for under $5.  You only need 1/2 yard for most and the rings are $1.69 and under.

 

For her curtains, I bought a hot pink polka dot sheet set from Target for $19.99.  I simply cut it in half and sewed the side seams and top rod pocket.  I added her existing black out curtain panels to the back for extra light control.

 

I love this wall above her dresser.  The mirror, floating frames, circle mirror, and chevron frame came from Hobby Lobby.  The four feminine frames are from Ikea.  At $4.99 each, they are my favorite!

 



 

I wrapped cork board letters in bright colored yarn for her name.  I love the texture it gives and the color it adds to the wall.

 

 

My favorite finishing touch was this little framed quote I created.  It says "happy girls are the prettiest."  Frames don't always need a picture in them.  Frame your favorite quote or even a cute piece of scrapbook paper.  Hobby Lobby's frames are always 50% off.

 

A Tween Room to Scream for

Last week, Kallee and I decorated our friend Karri's girls room.  She had purchased the bedding and many of the accessories, but needed help putting it all together.  Enter Kallee and I to do some magic.  We bought the circle mirror and layered the initial on top.  We added the ribbon and made it the perfect statement above each girl's bed.

In the bathroom, we added the ribbons and the cute queen crown.

Our favorite touch was the floating frame wall.  We got all of them from Hobby Lobby.  Isn't it perfect with the turquoise wall?

Love how we accessorized the top of the dresser.

 This dresser was Karri's as a girl.  We just added accessories on top and added the "sconces" on either side of the mirror.  They were from Hobby Lobby and added such great sparkle to the room.

Karri had this side table and mirror and wanted to incorporate it somehow.  She had all of the accessories in other parts of her house.  We just gathered and grouped them in new ways.  Look around your house.  You don't always have to buy new things.  Repurpose!!

We loved this little layered statement.  It was a metal flower wall hanging from Hobby Lobby.  We just layered it on one of the white floating frames.  This is a super easy design technique and makes such a bigger impact.  Love layering!

A Little Bit of Ribbon

The newly bedazzled birdcage inspired me to change the ribbon in Khloe's room.  I bought it all at The Emporium at Thanksgiving Point.  They have such great ribbon!  I love the turquoise with the green and cream layered.  The small jar is simply cream ribbon with a skinny pink layered on top.



I loved this ribbon.  Simply tie a bow and then tie the bow a second time to get the four-looped look.



I bunched the scraps of the other ribbons in the center of this bow.  It makes such a big difference for very little money!

A little more girl...

Had to share the finishing touch to baby girl's room I received on Saturday...

My talented mother-in-law made this beautiful quilt for her crib.  I saw one just like it on Etsy and she made it even better!  Thank you so much Pam!  The fabric line is Kumari Garden by Dena Designs.  I've seen pieces of it online still.  We found it at Material Girls in South Jordan. 

I also had a friend ask how I made the little banner so I thought I'd share...

I just traced 4" circles from a small glass bowl I have onto the coordinating fabrics from the fabric wheels in her room.

Then I used fabric glue to adhere them to chip board so they would be sturdy.  I punched a small hole through the top and strung each circle through a piece of twine.  I stuck a piece of tape from behind so the circles would stay in place.

Her name (either Katelyn or Capri...or Katelyn Capri :) will be added to this.  Hobby Lobby has cute jeweled letters...I just need them to go 50 percent off!

Once she's here I'll show my canvas making project...I hope they turn out!

Baby girl's room...

This has been such a fun project for me over the past few months!

I think this is my favorite part of the room.  Love how it turned out.

This wall is incomplete and will be until we have pictures of little sister.  I am making my own canvases which will hang from the other three knobs.  Also need her name for the initial to go in the other frame!



The curtains were definitely my splurge in the room but I love them!  I also like the square wreaths which I found at saveoncrafts.com.



This is the other half of the room...



LOVE this shelf.  I had it made by a guy in St. George whose sister helps him out and lives here in Utah County.  I need to find her info again to post for anyone who is interested...but it was only $90 for a custom, darling shelf!  Great deal!  Most of the accessories came from Taipan.  The ornamental piece on the far left was in clearance for $3!  My best find in the room!  Also love the frame underneath from Hobby Lobby...thanks Mom!



I love this light turqouise color as an accent in her room.  Don't you love the little crochet owl!  My cute friend Lindsey made it for me.

These were another fun find.  $7 from saveoncrafts.com.

I needed fillers on either side of the shelf so the embroidery rings worked great!  These fabrics were at the Fabric Mill in Orem.  This is a great, inexpensive way to fill space and add color in a room.

Loved this picture when I saw it...I bought it for $10 at Bijou Market.  Made by a cute company called Cinnamon Ink.  You can buy her stuff on Etsy as well.  The little banner will eventually have her name on it!  Glad I was able to tie in the fabrics on both sides of the shelf.

This was my find at Forget Me Not...$20 for a nightstand!  I had to paint it pink, but it worked out great!  I also got the lamp for $10 at Target and added a ruffle at the bottom of the shade.  My Mom has collected Madame Alexander dolls for years and this one was bought for me by my Grandma...glad I can use it now!

Now all we need is the sweet little princess to grace this room!  Should be sooner than later now!  Can't wait!

Fun find...frames

I went to Roberts on Black Friday for a 12x12 binder and also came away with this...

I'd been looking for a frame like this to go along one of baby girl's walls and this one was perfect.  This line carries really cute chipboard frames in a few different styles (including the cute oval shape).  With a 50 percent off it was $5.50!

Covered with some paper and a cute little saying I love, it turned out great!

I know I've been teasing about showing the nursery for awhile.  Still waiting to decide if we are going to paint the crib.  So the bedding isn't in yet.  But it will have to be done sooner than later so pictures will be coming in short order!

Fabric ball decorations

My amazing sister in law threw the cutest party for her two year old and made the most darling decorations.  When I saw the flower balls I knew I wanted to make a few for baby girl's room.  Luckily they require no sewing and are really easy!  Here's a how to (thank you Melissa for teaching me!)
Supplies:
Styrofoam balls (cheapest at Hobby Lobby...I used 8", 4" and 3" balls)
Fabric - Melissa recommended using broadcloth because it doesn't fray easily...and it's only $2.99 a yard and Hobby Lobby has good colors to choose from.  I needed 2 1/2 yards for the 8" ball, 1 1/2 yards for the 4" and a yard for the 3".

Fabric scissors
An object to measure the circles (4 1/2" circumference for the larger ball and 2 1/2" circumference for the smaller ones)

To start, trace circles out of your fabric.  With good fabric scissors you can fold it over four times and cut more circles at once.  Melissa's Mom let me borrow this scrapbooking tool that was the perfect size to trace the circles.  I took the measurements from it for reference...

Once the circles are cut out, fold each one in half...

...and in half again to make this:

Push a pleating pin through the layers at the bottom.  If you gather the fabric around the pin a little bit (weave it in and out of the fabric layers) it helps to shape the fabric petal better.

Stick the pin in the styrofoam and spread out the petal.  Repeat, repeat and repeat!  Eventually it will start looking like this:

You want each petal fairly close together so your ball will look full (with the larger circled petals you don't need them quite as close, but just eye it as you go and look for any gaps to fill in).

And here's the finished product:

They are such a fun decoration for a girl's room, party, shower etc.  The nursery should be done in about a month and I can't wait to reveal it on the blog!

Big reveal coming in a few months! 

The Big Reveal

This was Khloe's nursery.

This is her big girl bedroom!  Her bed was the steal of the century.  We got it for $200 from DownEast Home in Draper.  It is the Pottery Barn Catalina storage bed.  It retails for $1000.  The reason it was on sale was because it didn't have the screws for the finials.  Davy simply glued a dowel rod in the hole, hammered in a nut, and screwed in the finials.  It was a $8 fix.  Love, love, love DownEast Home.  It is also where we bought the dresser in her room 5 years ago.  Great finds!

Since I moved her lamp to her bedside table/stool, there was a space.  So I moved the pink vase from off her shelf, and picked up the cream iron stand from Rod Works for $18.  I love the height and whimsy it provides.

Thus, on the shelf was a hole from the pink vase.  I found this great birdcage at Osmond Designs in Lehi for $10.  They have great inexpensive accessories.

I found Khloe's bedding at Bed, Bath and Beyond.  I used a 20% off coupon and paid $63 for the twin quilt and sham.  It is the perfect shabby chic vintage look that I wanted.  I absolutely love how her room turned out and that I spent so little on it!  If you look, you can find the deals.  Take me with you any time.
