Baby Boy Nursery Round Two

Our cute neighbor Amy is finally getting a baby boy after three beautiful girls.  She asked for some help decorating the nursery in a nautical theme.  With Lindsay busy with Kate, Kallee and I set out to help her accessorize the room.  I love this wall grouping.  I used the same ship wheel in Porter's room and thought it would be cute to layer an initial in the center.  Amy bought the "R" and the wheel from Hobby Lobby, and it works perfectly.  The frames will be filled with Baby Ryan's newborn pics.

I saw this mobile in Pottery Barn and knew I could make it! (It only cost me $11.)



 I'm really happy with how it turned out.  Amy loves it, and it works perfectly in the room.

I used an embroidery hoop and wrapped it with twine.

I painted litte wooden canoes.  I stained canvas by painting it with a watered down burnt sienna.  Cut the canvas in triangles and glued twine to the edges and to the dowel.  I glued the dowels in the boats and then hung them from the hoop.  It was a great project to get my creative juices flowing.

I modge podged paper to chip board letters to spell out baby boy's name.

Amy bought premade navy curtains.  They needed a little pizazz.  I found this Nautica fabric on clearance at Joann's.  I sewed it to the bottom of the curtain, and it made a huge difference in the room.



For the shelf, we paired the ship with large jacks, a jar full of different sport balls, jars of marbles, and a wooded buoy.  We found the round mirror at Hobby Lobby for $10 to echo the idea of a porthole.   The basket looks like rope and is the perfect catchall for diapers, wipes, powder, etc.



We saw this print on Etsy for $40.  I emailed the words to a friend who used her printshop program to recreate it.  I printed it as an 8x10 lustre photo from Costco for $1.50.



Added a little ribbon and rickrack to the lampshade to take it from storebought to handmade!



This hamper was the perfect finishing touch for the room.  We loved the idea of using red as a pop of color.  We used it in the hamper and the pillow in the rocker to bring your eye away from all the blues.  Don't be afraid to add color that is not in your bedding.  Thanks Amy for letting us be a part of Baby Ryan's nursery.

Baby Boy Nursery

My cute cousin Emily decorated this room for her baby Deacon.  She did such an amazing job!  I mean those Chevron stripes are incredible.  I love the gray and white scheme with the pops of bright colors.  Thanks Emily for letting me share your talents.

A little more girl...

Had to share the finishing touch to baby girl's room I received on Saturday...

My talented mother-in-law made this beautiful quilt for her crib.  I saw one just like it on Etsy and she made it even better!  Thank you so much Pam!  The fabric line is Kumari Garden by Dena Designs.  I've seen pieces of it online still.  We found it at Material Girls in South Jordan. 

I also had a friend ask how I made the little banner so I thought I'd share...

I just traced 4" circles from a small glass bowl I have onto the coordinating fabrics from the fabric wheels in her room.

Then I used fabric glue to adhere them to chip board so they would be sturdy.  I punched a small hole through the top and strung each circle through a piece of twine.  I stuck a piece of tape from behind so the circles would stay in place.

Her name (either Katelyn or Capri...or Katelyn Capri :) will be added to this.  Hobby Lobby has cute jeweled letters...I just need them to go 50 percent off!

Once she's here I'll show my canvas making project...I hope they turn out!

Baby girl's room...

This has been such a fun project for me over the past few months!

I think this is my favorite part of the room.  Love how it turned out.

This wall is incomplete and will be until we have pictures of little sister.  I am making my own canvases which will hang from the other three knobs.  Also need her name for the initial to go in the other frame!



The curtains were definitely my splurge in the room but I love them!  I also like the square wreaths which I found at saveoncrafts.com.

LOVE this shelf.  I had it made by a guy in St. George whose sister helps him out and lives here in Utah County.  I need to find her info again to post for anyone who is interested...but it was only $90 for a custom, darling shelf!  Great deal!  Most of the accessories came from Taipan.  The ornamental piece on the far left was in clearance for $3!  My best find in the room!  Also love the frame underneath from Hobby Lobby...thanks Mom!



I love this light turqouise color as an accent in her room.  Don't you love the little crochet owl!  My cute friend Lindsey made it for me.

These were another fun find.  $7 from saveoncrafts.com.

I needed fillers on either side of the shelf so the embroidery rings worked great!  These fabrics were at the Fabric Mill in Orem.  This is a great, inexpensive way to fill space and add color in a room.

Loved this picture when I saw it...I bought it for $10 at Bijou Market.  Made by a cute company called Cinnamon Ink.  You can buy her stuff on Etsy as well.  The little banner will eventually have her name on it!  Glad I was able to tie in the fabrics on both sides of the shelf.

This was my find at Forget Me Not...$20 for a nightstand!  I had to paint it pink, but it worked out great!  I also got the lamp for $10 at Target and added a ruffle at the bottom of the shade.  My Mom has collected Madame Alexander dolls for years and this one was bought for me by my Grandma...glad I can use it now!

Now all we need is the sweet little princess to grace this room!  Should be sooner than later now!  Can't wait!

I love how it turned out!  McKay gave this to me as a Christmas present.  Meggie Stevens painted it for us and did a great job...and was reasonably priced!  Her blog is www.shabby2chicdesign.blogspot.com.  Well worth repainting instead of rebuying!  The nursery is now just about complete!  Check back tomorrow for a room tour!

Modern Baby

My friend Liz from high school married my friend Travis and they just had their first darling little baby boy.  I saw her nursery a few months ago and LOVE it!  She did a fabulous job and I wanted to share her great style...

The brick wall is just a product you can buy at Lowes!  It's three dimensional and Liz said applies fairly easy to the wall!  How awesome is that!  Also love the mobile.

 Liz refinished the dresser and I love the mod podge paper design!  What a cute and unique idea.

This was her focal point for the room...great rug from Anthropology.  They sure don't disappoint on unique starting points!

Travis served a mission in the Carribean and brought this home with him...what a fun addition to the room!  How nice would it be to have a hammock to relax in while soothing the baby! 

Also loved the lamp...he's a big fisherman and it's fun to add a family touch to the baby room.

Fun Find...Restoration Hardware for Baby

A new friend of mine, Kelsey, introduced me to the baby bedding line by Restoration Hardware.  Although not the cheapest you can find, it's sweet, simple and just what I've been looking for.  I've got my eye on a few for either boy or girl...

If it's a girl, I've had an idea to do all white bedding with a colorful quilt to drape over the crib.  This would be perfect.

Love the simple slate blue color for baby boy.  It's time for a change in my nursery and I can't wait to start!

This week will be a week of simple posts for me...I'm MIA for the week but wanted to share just a few of my latest favorites. 

Beautiful baby room...designed by Melissa

Lisa and I know many people who also love interior design and have done beautiful things in their homes...and we want to share some of their inspiration with you!  My sister in law Melissa has fabulous taste and did an impecable job decorating little Lucy's room...

Melissa had a hard time finding bedding she loved...so between her, her mom and our mother in law they made this beautiful bedding.  She used fabric by Joel Dewberry (http://www.joeldewberry.com/).  Her crib was from Bratt Decor (http://www.brattdecor.com/), but she found a boutique in Kaysville that sold it for a few hundred dollars less than the website.  Isn't it an amazing crib!   

My personal favorite is the tulle bed skirt...such a fun touch!

The mobile was from USA Baby and looked quite different originally.  She put her own touch on it to match the fabrics and colors in the room.

Love the bows sewn onto the curtains!

She found this dresser for $50 at a consignment store!  They painted it grey and added mismatched knobs from Anthropologie.  Great idea to use a regular dresser instead of a changing table to use long after the baby stage is over!  Also love the beadboard accent wall behind the dresser.  It's a cream color with a light stain over the top.

Lucy's letters were from Roberts which she painted and added glitter.  They sell glitter spray which would make this project super easy and adds a great finish.

I also love this piece of artwork that Melissa did herself.  She had seen this in a few etsy shops and figured she could do it much cheaper herself and make it a perfect match with the fabrics from the bedding.  I love how it turned out.  Just a piece of canvas and fun fabrics create a perfect little addition!

And here's the princess who dwells in this room...she's such a doll Melissa!  Thanks for sharing your pictures and beautiful ideas.  You've got quite a talent.
